Social networks are a wonder for many things. One of the most important for me, is to allow me to put on the map places that I probably would not have known.
One of those places is the beech forest of Otzarreta, in the natural park of Gorbeia. The dream image: to be able to see it in an autumn moment with morning mists.
And that’s how everything started, with a weekend getaway, that might seem tired, but it was very worth it.
The beech forest of Otzarreta is located in the municipality of Zeanuri, belonging to a private estate with free entry. The access is very simple, being able to be done by car.
When you arrive, you realize that it is a forest of small dimensions, but at the same time the image overwhelms you for its beauty.
The first thing that struck me was the color. The combination of the red of the leaves that covered the ground, and the green, both of the moss, and of the light filtered by the leaves that had not yet fallen.
These beeches are unique for their branches, which grow vertically, and not horizontally as usual. These branches, together with the moss-covered trunks, and the visible roots, which are also covered with green, achieve an image that is hard to forget.
It is also beautiful the small stream that crosses it, the Zubiazabala, but that unfortunately we find practically dry, with only a few small puddles in its channel.
With the fog there was no luck either. To see if we found it, we decided to come back on Sunday, but nothing.
Although in fact Sunday was very good. On the one hand I met Javier Alonso Torre. A nature photographer that I follow, and despite being working with a group, was very kind with us.
And the other great moment of the day came when the sun could partially sense among the clouds, allowing us to enjoy some rays of sun and an even more intense color.
It is certainly a place that deserves to be visited. Who knows if there will be repetition …
But as man does not live only in forests, we also went to the coast. Although this will be in another entry.
